Atchinson Ford Sales was the last Ford dealership to be located in the City of Belleville, later moving to 9800 Belleville Road in Van Buren Township.  In October 1961, Norman S. "Dutch" Atchinson was appointed by the Ford Motor Company to replace John Barber.  When he took over the dealership, Mr. Atchinson held a "get acquainted special sale" that was advertised locally, and the pattern of success was begun.

It has taken us 46 years to build our present image.  The company was founded on the principle that the public is entitled to the best service possible in satisfying its transportation needs.  In the year we were founded, 360 cars were sold.  At that time, we had only 12 employees.  In 1984, we sold approximately 1200 vehicles and had 36 employees.

Our founder, Norman S. Atchinson, envisioned the dynamic growth and progress experienced by our community, and his ethical business practices and sense of community leadership worked hand-in-hand in building the success and progress we now enjoy.  By the mid 1960's, Mr. Atchinson recognized the need for expanded facilities for his growing operations.  In 1967, he oversaw construction and relocated Atchinson Ford to large, spacious facilities in Van Buren Township on Belleville Road.

Our community is still growing.  We want to make sure that our business is operated on the principles that will keep pace.  Present day management strongly feels that our greatest assets in the future growth and progrss of Atchinson Ford are our employees and our customers.  Our company philosophy is the age-old Golden Rule, and we will strive in the conduct of our daily work to live by this philosophy in human relations.

On December 1, 1982, new owners were appointed by Ford Motor Company.  Kurt L. Atchinson and David S. Marsh became the second generation of owners.  Most recently, on February 9, 1989, Kurt L. Atchinson and Edward C. Brown were appointed owners of the dealership.  All of these owners have remained committed to expanding the total operation and to continuing the company philosophies that have helped to sustain and build Atchinson Ford Sales, Inc. through the years.
